FEBRUARY RECORDS MORE THAN 300 EARTHQUAKES AND TEN OF STRONG MAGNITUDE, WITH DEATHS


InfoMED News Press, CDMX México.-According to the latest balance issued by the United States Geological Survey, so far in February 333 telluric movements have been recorded around the world, this figure corresponds to intensities above the 4 degrees of magnitude.

Until 5:00 p.m. Coordinated Universal Time this Friday, February 17, there were at least 231 earthquakes ranging between 4 and 4.9 magnitude, most of them were registered in the region that covers Indonesia to New Zealand.

In the case of earthquakes greater than 5 degrees of magnitude, 93 were registered, the vast majority occurred in Turkey as a result of two large earthquakes. To this list are added 5 earthquakes greater than 6 degrees of magnitude, three occurred in Turkey, one in the Philippines and the last in New Zealand, both of 6 degrees of magnitude.

On February 6, Turkey was hit by two intense earthquakes, the first occurred 34 km west of the city of Gaziantep at 04:17 in the morning, nine hours later a new earthquake of 7.5 magnitude was recorded. The record of aftershocks exceeds one thousand aftershocks, but of these, 91 earthquakes above 4 degrees of magnitude, 28 of 5M and 3 of greater than 6M are recorded.

Turkey exceeds the figure of 40,000 fatalities, 300,000 homeless, 75,717 collapsed buildings. And an economic loss of almost 84.100 million dollars, according to estimates by the Turkish Confederation of Companies.
